May 27—Mr and Mrs John van Rensselaer Seott celebrated this afternoon with a reception the 50th anniversary of their marriage. A company of 20fls called and tendered their congratulations, Mr and Mrs Scott received their guests in tho front parlor of their home, and were assisted in receiving by their three daughters—Mrs James E. Raw son of Worcester and Misses Jessie Fremont and Hattie Gertrude Scott of Uxbridge. The house was beautifully decorated and the receiving room was tastefully arranged.Mr Seott, who is a native of Uxbridge and a prominent mTTi owner, is one of the best known men in Worcester county. He was born in Uxbridge Oct IS.1829, the son of Manley and Henrietta (Thayer)- Scftt. He enrne from fighting stock, as his grandfather, Amos Thayer fought in the revolutionary war ana took a company of )3 men to Newport, | r R I. He was one of a family of 12 chil- ; ^ dren, but three of whom are now llv- j Imn ing, George N. Scott of Worcester, | and Oroj'sis T. Scott of Uxbridge and Mrs ! Edwin Staples of Worcester. I tt,,Mr Scott was married May 27. 1832, to Miss Hurriet Jane Cass, daughter of John Cass, at Uxbridge, the ceremony being performed by Rev Samuel ClarRe, then pastor of the Unitarian church there.Mr Scott has the distinction of being over 50 years an Odd Fellow. He Joined Uxbridge lodge at Uxbridge in December, 1849, and has since been a member, lit has held all the positions and Is a past grand and noole grand of the lodge, and has ror^esented it on many occasions. He is *also a Mason. He Joined Pawtucket lodge at Stonlngton,Conn In 1866, and has kept his membership in that lodge until recently, when he affiliated with Solomon temple at Uxbridge. He has been past master of that lodge.In politics Mr Scott is an ardent republican, and for a number of years was chairman of the Uxbridge republican town committee. He was also a school committeeman for several years, and its chairman for three years.WILD PHEASANT A FIGHTER.He Thrashes Every Rooster on a Farm at Lockport, N Y.LOCKPOKT, N Y. May 27-Game protector Barger has notified Henry Parker, a farmer, to appear before Police Justice Bradley on a charge of having a golden pheasant in his possession.Parker says that during the terrible snow storms of February the pheasant came to his barnyard and shared the fowls' meals and shelter. When the warm days came the wild oird continued its visits. It fought every rooster on the farm und Invariably was victor. It then tackled the gobblers and defeated them. The domestic fowls were demoralized by the intrusion of the mongollan.One day it followed a rooster into the coop, and one of the Parkers shut up the troublesome bird. They had It In confinement 13 days, when protector Barger discovered the technical Infraction of the law which protects golden pheasants until 1905.
