Nelson VV. ftvans, Ksq., a relative and noted attorney, of Portsmouth, Ohio,who was pit sent, then spent n tow minutes by way of a brief history of the .Patton family, dating bark into the seventeenth century, and tracing them down from generation to generation, until he reached the closing years of Mr, Nathaniel Patton’s mother; here he digressed to read her will, made a short time before her death, calling the attention of the friends to the excellent traits of character in tlie life of this departed mother,indicated in the will by the careful disposition of her earthly means, and the very kind and ulfectionato manner in which she remembered all her friends in her dying hours. Continuing Ids remarks in the same line of thoughts, he brought the hundred and fifty friends, who hoard him, to that memorable day of May 21st, 18115, when Nathaniel Patton and ftdiza Duncan were united in marriage.They began housekeeping but a few hundred yards from where they now live, in a small log hut, then in the woods. Something more than forty years ago they built the house and moved to it, where they live to-day.Of the seven children born to them, five are living, and with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. May Stewart, of Denver, Col., they were present with their parents Thursday.Mr. Kvans close.1 his remarks by presenting the father and mother an autograph album, from the first page of which lie read a request from the donors that each person present on the occasion would place his autograph in its psges whereby Mr. and Mrs, Patton might remember them as a body.It i- useless to add that the day was an enjoyable one, and that It will long be pleasantly remembered by all who participated.
