Eppmnn, Becker, Benckman. and Wolters.Misses Annabel Becker and Rosalie ©ecker, granddaughters of the Couple, served as bridesmaids and Elmer Becker and francie Lelly, grandsons served as groomsmen.Mrs Becker was attired in a pretty hlack silk drc*s trimmed in gold lace and wore a gold wreath on her head. The bridesmaids were daintily gowned in yellow silk canton crepe dresses.After the ceremony the bridal party repaired to the Singer Had where an all day celebration took place. The hall was prettily decorated for the occasion the color scheme being yellow and white. Beautiful cakes adorned the table. The wedding coke, which was baked by Mrs. Harry Carter a daughter, was large and beautifully decorated. The table was laden with delicious food to which all did ample justice. Refreshment of all kinds were served during the afternoon «nd eveningPershing's Orchestra furnished the music for the affair About 300 guests enjoyed the event during the eveningThe members and families of tbe Singer society, tbe Working Men's society, the C. K, . L. of I and many other friends were present and enjoyed the evening.Tbe couple were tbe recipients of many costly and beautiful presents, a* ropng them being a number of baskets of beautiful flowers.Mr. and Mrs. Becker are among the .prominent residents of this city. Mr. Becker is 77 years old and bis wife is 67 years of age.Mr Becker began his career as school teacher He served on the draft board during 1917 and 1918. He and his vrlfp enjoy the reputation of presiding over one of the most hospitable homes In the county The couple have many fdends In this vicinity and Belleville The couple are tbe parents of seven children, six sons and one daughter viz: Joseph C « Becker, who died April 26, 1916; Wm. H. |Lena Carter, wde of Harry Carter of this city; Eugene P. Becker of tins city. Harry L Becker of East St. Louis. They also have eleven grand-children and one greatgrandchildMr Becker was born at Hofheim im Ried, Hesse Darmstadt, son of Karl Becker and Barbara Becker, n**e Heyder, on June27, 1848 He came to tbe United States on May 10th, 1873 to Beeucoup. Washington county. Ill on the farm of John Wetzel.On October 29th, 1873, he was appointed by Rev Mirbach of Fayetteville as teacher of the Catholic School at Freeburg, resigning said position in February, 1881On May 20th, 1875 he was married by Rev A. Wirtschoreck to Katie Reichert ( «orn April 3D 1858), daughter of Joseph Reichert and Maria Reichert, nee Rauth From 1881 to 1885 he was clerk at the the Reichert null and manager of a coal mine He was postmaster at Freeburg under President Cleveland’s first administration, then superintendent and secretary of the Freiburg Coal Company to March, 1892, elected recorder of St. Clair county in November, 1892, defeated for re-election, he took up the coal business again.He was appointed as a member of the Board of Review by the late Judge Hay in 1900, serving on said board for seven successive years. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of this city for four years, collector of Freeburg Township for eight years and four years assessor. In 1912 he was elected to tbe State Board of Equalization in the 22nd Congressional District for a term of four years. He was Police Magistrate t»nd Justice of the Pasco for nearly 20 years, and was secretary and director of the Freeburg Singing Society and secretary of the Freeburg Working Men’s Aid Society for over 30 years.Our last word is this:—Genuine hospi-pallty prevailed at this most successful affair—more of Home-Coming than a Golden Wedding Celebration, is our verdict. for everyone knows Uncle Becker and Aunt Katherine and borrowing the slogan from our ancient friend.
