The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority -Ensuring that Jamaica meets international standards in aviationTh e mission of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) is to ensure that the public is provided a safe, reliable, efficient and user-friendly air transport system being cognizant of the standards and recommended practices developed bv the International Civil Aviation Organisation(ICAO).The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority began operations in May 1996 as a statutory organisation within the Ministry of Transport and Works, replacing the Ministry’s Civil Aviation DeparttbentWorking quietly and effectively, the JCAA began the task of ensuring that all operators in the air transport sector comply with international standards and practices as well as local rules and regulations.The ground work and dedication of its highly qualified professional staff bore satisfying results as within 16 months, the Authority took Jamaica from a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Category Two rating to a Category One rating.
