Beautifying Park Last I Act of City Garden Club iA $40.65 contribution from the defunct First Garden Club of Janesville will serve as the start of a lilac bush ring in Palmer Park along lines of the one that has been a feature of Riverside Park for many years.City Manager Joseph Lustig said the donation, representing the balance in the First Garden Club’s treasury, was sent by Mrs. H. H. Bliss, one of the 10women who first planted therare species of lilac bushes in Riverside Park on top of the hill •ast of the golf course.Lustig said the surviving members of the club felt thatthe money might be used tostart a similar display in Palmer Park. Lustig heartily endorsed the idea and said the lilac display in Palmer Park will be started in an area near the upper pavilion. Likely someof the bushes in Riverside willbe transplanted to Palmer Parkto thin out some of the displayarea.Surviving members of the First Garden Club who had a part in the Riverside Parkplanting many years ago besides Mrs. Bliss are Mrs. Bernard Palmer, Mrs. George S.Parker, Mrs. John Haumersonand Mrs. Louis Levy. Deceased are Mrs. John Rexford, Mrs. John M. Whitehead, Mrs. Sam j Smith, Mrs. Stanley Smith and Mrs. Frank H. Jackman.
