Of Cornelius Morris and Wife Is Celebrated.THE WORTHY OLD COUPLEAre Greeted by a Host of Young and Old Friends.nathteetheP*IKththtcirttXDfitMr. awl Mrs. Cornelius Morris o£ 520 East William street celebrated their gold en wedding anniversary Wednesday, May 1ft, at the old home place, five miles southwest of tlie city.Cornelius Morris and Miss Mangeret E* Cox weio married fifty years ago by ’Squire B. R. Austin. Mr. Morris was then a stalwart youth of 23 years and his bride, the belle of the neighborhood, was 1C. Only fcix who witnessed the ceremony are now living end three of them weic present at tlie fiftieth nnmvemiry of the event, and enteicd into the cele-brntion with almost as much interest na ihey did the first. They were Mrs. Sarah Ward and Mr. and Mrs. George M. Coyl The other three witnesses living are Mrs. Saiah Ann King, Mis. Zenith McDaniplb61liB1| and Jerome Cox. All six are residents of Macon county.Cornelius Morris was born in PicTcn-way county, .nfew Cirdevillet O., and came to Decatur in December, 1B38,MUs Margaret E. Cov was born in Mo-eon county, near the place where she and her husband first went to housekeeping*• Mr. Morris’ father was quite well off and 1 Cornell us was given a few' acres of prairie ^ soil on which to begin his career of suc-t cess. Cornelius built a little cottage of j J three rooms and it was in that same home tlmt th© fiftieth wedding aimi* versa ry dinner was served Wednesday. But there is another house that has been added to the improvements of the place.It it* a large brick atrncture of nine Toom* \ and the patch of prairie soil on which they began their married life has increased to a farm of 300 acres of as fine hnlt;l .is there is in the county, and the improvements are of the best. Mr. Morris also owns several properties in Decatur.Ten children were bom to Mr. and Mrs. Morris, three of whom are dead Theie axe sixteen grandchildren. Tho seven children present wore Mrs. C. W. Frew, Mrs. S II. Jameson, Mrs. N. 11. Childs, Mrs. L P. Light, all of Decatur: and T. F. Morris, C5 W. Morris and E. O. Morris, all residing on the home farm. All the grandchildren were present except the eldest, C W. Frew, who but a few days ago left to join the army and is now at Chattanooga.Mr. Morris is now 72 years old, while his wife is f.O. Thev are still hnle and hearty anil do not look as old as they icaily meThey were given n present of $50 in golu by their seven children.
