E. Webster and his son. Hollis.opened the first Holly's In South(haven. It was “Holly's Fountain! Lunch” located in the WebsterHotel. . 1 - -■ .• * •ACTUALLY the history of the Webster family in the restaurant business dates back to the 1990's when Calvin E. Webster opened his restaurant in Nappanee, Irtd.The Holly nan* wasn't adopted until 1925. although the Websters ! owned several other restaurants. The first of these was the River-* side Cafe” on Williams Srteet. then the busy street in South Haven.Two years later. E. C. Webster and his son, Hollis, operated the Michigan Cafe in St. Petersburg,Fla.iTHE WEBSTERS returned to South Hawen and opened the Dew Drop Inn in Oakland Grove. Later } they owned and operated the Dairy Lunch Restaurant at the corner of Williams and Center Streets und Noble’s Candy Kitchen on Phoenix Street, where thei City Grocery' is ndw located.The year after E. C. Wehater and t Hollis opened Holly's Fountain Lunch in the Webster Hotel, May.1925, Ward Webster, now the president and general manager of the Holly enterprises, became the partner of Hollis.Hollis and Ward opened the first Holly s Restaurant on Center Street in 1926. Today Holly's is still in business at the same location, al-!! though the building was redeco-fcj rated in January.THROUGH these years Holly* has continued to expand... Other Holy enterprises have been Holly’s Grill, called “The Diner” onBroadwuy, the Jania Hotel Cafeteria, and Holly’s Grill which was moved to Indiana and Elkenburg from Broadway.In 1938 the first Holly Grills. Inc , was started in St. Joseph and a similar Holly's *was completed at Benton Harbor ip 1941. The Holly House In Grand Rapids, the most complete restaurant building in the Holly chain, was com-in 1948, while last year Holly's Drive-In at US-31 and M-140 was added to the Holly chain.Today Holly's have the same high standards of good food, well-oook-ed and served in s* hospitable atmosphere that made them famous 25 years ago.t-
