?Ipci!tiSnCommencement exercises for the class of 1940, Brookfield Junior High School, were held last night in the High School auditorium.One hundred and ten pupils completed the prescribed courses in the lower grades and will enter the senior school this Pall for the three-year finishing course.' There were 60 boys and 50 girls,The auditorium was filled with parents, relatives and friends of the young graduates. All were seated on the stage, the young ladies dressed in special formats and the young men in the correct attire for the gentleman about to step out for the evening. The evening marked the beginning of the “stepping out” period for these youngsters. Their next step, which carries them to the senior high school this Fall, has a different meaning. The work varies somewhat as they prepare to enter college or gp out into the world of experience. jcThese young students have had the 11: benefit of modern teaching methods slt; dnd equipment and enter the higher o school with a more complete training a than was possible a few years back. j M The honor roll, listed ip alphabet- h leal order, was as follows: Merle Arr, j o Kathryn Olark, Jeanette Green, Betty ri Hamilton, Mary Harris, Bennie Lea slt; Johnson, Frances Lee Johnson, John Richard Johnson, Betty Lou Mosley, Sheila Ramsey and June Rose.The D. A. R. prize, which is an an- ti nual award given to the best history a, student among the girls, -was awarded to Shirley Jo Deinlnger and Henri- fi etta Drescher. This test is for eighth : n grade students. A competitive writ- tl ten test is given to determine the rr winner, and the two tied on the examine tion.
