MRS. MARTHA MALANDMrs. Anna Martha Maland, who died May 11. was born in Bats. Norway, Oct. 5, 1884. Shewas ihe daughter of Torbjurn and Martha Sorhus and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.In 1908 she came to the United States and moved to Story County. In 1911 she married Sam Maland. They had six children.She was a member of the Palestine Lutheran Church.Mrs. Maland was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1940; her parents, three sisters and a brother.Survivors include six children. Mrs. Alice Anderson, Mrs. Helen Anderson, Cambridge; Martin, Grand Forks, N. D.; Stanley and Archie, Huxley and Mrs. Beatrice Hopson, Nevada: four step-children, Joe, Des Moines; Edwin, Stockton, Calif.; Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Kelley and Ethel Maland, Denver, Colo.; 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, four brothers and three i sisters. IFuneral services were held at the Palestine Lutheran Church, Huxley, May 13 with the Rev. Arnold Hanson officiating. Burial was in the Palestine Cemetery.Pallbearers were Noel Larson, Arnold Ness, S. B. Sheldahl, David Birkestrand, Omar Bren-deland and Elmer Sheldahl.
