I was very lucky to beat Kit-zie. ”Asked what her chances were of goingall the way in the state tournament, Nuckols said : “Not very good. Tm just glad to get the chance to compete and represent the school.Margaret Luchini, of Beckley, won the women’s number one championship 6-2, 6-1 over Ann Jones. The other Beckley winners were Cindy O’Neal, Barb Culicerto, Connie Hajash and Brenda Brammer.Luchini, Hajash and Brammer are all undefeated.All six Woodrow Wilson men took firsts. Tom Elkin, who was seeded fourth in the number one field and who has a record of 8-4, won a match against the top seed, Bob Howerton of Logan, and went on to win the championship against Mike Lovem, of Princeton, 6-2, 6-2.Rob Anderson. Mark Fields and Bill Jones remained undefeated by winning their championship matches in straight sets. All the men won in straight sets. The other Beckley winners were Scott McCulloch and John Higgins. Runnersup in the men’s competition besides Lovern were: Gilespie, Greenbrier East; Moller, Greenbrier East; King, Princeton, Evans, Princeton and Crowe, Princeton.Park Wins First
