John W. Cullen Ordained SundayHe Celebrated His First Mass at Whittemore Today.John W. Cullen, son of Mr. and Mr?. John S. Cullen of Whittemore was ordained into the priesthood at tlie Cathedral of Epiphany at Sioux City Sunday morning at 8 o’clock. Five other young men were ordained at the same time.Rev. John W. Cullen celebracei his first high mass in St. Michael’s church at Whittemore today at 10 o'clock a. m. Rev. Wm. Veit, pastor of St. Michael’s church, was arch-priesi. Rev. Robert J. O’Reilly of Ft. Dodge, newly ordained served as deacon. Rev. Bernard Nenimers of LeMars, also newly ordained, served as sub-deacon, Rev. Edward Fandel of Remsen was master of ceremonies* Rev. J. J. Hyland of Whittemore was second master of ceremonies. The Rev. P. C. Gearin of Onawa delivered the sermon.Gerald McTigue of Emrnetsburg, nephew of the newly ordained priest, was thurifer, Loyala O’Brien and Serenus Elbert of Whittemore served as acolytes.Following the mass a banquet was served to the visiting priests, immediate relatives and close friends at the Academy hall. A short program was rendered.A public reception will be held this evening when an excellent program will be rendered. .Rev. John W. Cullen was born at Whittemore August 15, 1908. He attended Presentation Academy and graduated in 1925. Jn the fall of 1928 lie entered Creighton University at Omaha. In 1930 he went to St. Paul and studied philosophy for two years in the Seminary of * St. Paul and took four years in theology, completing his course this month which lead to the goal, his ordination.. Father Cullen is an exceptionally brilliant young man and a fine char-acter. His calling will not come amiss I f°r he is earnest, honest, and sincere Til d feels deeply the responsibilities o£ his calling. He realizes the opportunities for good that are now his and he knows that these opportunities bring responsibilities with them. He is happy to have reached this point in his liic and he faces the future with the joy and anticipation of performing faithfully and well the clearly apprehended duties that are his to be.^ The Tribune congratulates Father Cullen as well as his parents who have looked forward to this happy event in his life, and wishes him (abundant success in the great work | he has undertaken.
