The members of bis familv and a few of his oldest and most estimable friends called on him to olTor their congratulations.Mr. vSandmeier is a native of (ior-manv. having been born in Llppec Dotinold on May 1*2, 18:15. When about 20 years of ago ho emigrated to America with his parents, Herman and Frederica Sandmeier. tTpon their arrival in this country they came immediately to Freeport. This was in the year of 1858, and ten years later his father and mother died.Mr. Sandmeier was reared and educated in Germany. In 18158 he was united in marriage to .Miss Mar-garetha Kriet.be, of this city, but who, liko her husband, is a native of Germany. Mr. Sandmeier started ('lit in life a comparatively poor boy, and has known what it is to work one’s way up in the world. On this account he is considerate of others, and during his later years in this city he has helped many a young man along in a substantial manner. He likes the company of young folks and is never happier than when he has a number of them gathered about him. ami he regales them with anecdotes of his earlv life and affairs that happened in those days. His memory of the early and stirring history of Freeport is remarkable. He delights in talking over the affairs and happenings of the years tiiat are now chronicled in history.Mr. Sandmeier received the congratulations of his many friends on the turning of the seventy-fourth milestone of life's journey.
