This was in the year of lHf,8, and ten years iafer his father and mother died.Mr. Sandmeior was reared and educated in (Germany. In 1M08 lie was united in marriage to .Miss Mar-garetha Kriethe, of this city, but who, like her husband, is a native of (Jennany. Mr. Sandmeier started out in life a comparatively poor boy. and lias known what it is to work one's way up in the world. On this account he is considerate of others, and during his later years in this city he lias helped many a young man along in a substantial manner. He likes the company of young folks and is never happier than when lie has a number of them gathered about him. anil he regales them with anecdotes of his earlv life and affairs that happened in those days. His memory of the early and stirring history of Freeport' is remarkable. He delights in talking over the affairs and happenings of the years tiiat are now chronicled in history.Mr. Sandmeier received the congratulations of his many friends on the turning of the seventy-fourth milestone of life’s journey.
