Schmid and Walter Schmid formed^ a partnership and took over the Frigidaire franchise from the Smith Dairy Co., which at that time was the Frigidaire dealer in this area. Bennet’s first location was in the garage just south of' the Smith 'Dairy plant. It was just after the war and merchandise was very scarce—a time when cash wasimore plentiful than merchandise. The business prospered and in 1947 Bennet’s moved to their present location' The new building was built by William Schmid especially for Bennet’s type of appliance business. Above the appliance Store are five fine apartments for which there is always a waiting list.On May 10, 1947,. Bennet’s had *a Grind Opening at their new appliance store and approximately 1500 people came to pay a visit and participate in the drawings for prizes. At that time, Bennet’s had two service men: Olen Steph-on and Clarence Schrock, whoseson, Lyle, is now employed by Bennet’s. Evelyn Geiser was bookkeeper and sales girl.On May 10, 1948, Bennet Geiser purchased the refrigeration- service business of Clarence Royer in Wooster and thus was thebeginning of. the Bennet Refrigeration and Appliance Co. of Wooster. The business there grew untilit supported eight employees. In 1953, the Wooster Bennet’s store was sold to Howard and Clyde Webb, and Bennet’s placed all their emphasis on the Orrvillestore. Many friends were made in Woostei* and many from that area still, come to Orrville to purchasetheir appliances at Bennet’s.•In 1949, Bennet purchased Walter Schmid’s interest in the Orr-rville store andin 1950 Bennet’s was formed into a corporation with Bennet Geiser, Grace: Geiser and William Schmid as the stockholders. Later, Bennet Geiser purchased the stock of William Schmid.In 1950, Ford Zarte came to Bennet’s as appliance salesman and worked for eight years, until he moved to Sarasota, Florida, where he is in the insurance business. In 1957, Leonard “ Geiser joined his father in the business doing the accounting, advertising, and selling. The service department also grew as William Boggs, Gerald Landis and Lyle Schrock joined Bennet’s.Bennet’s have always put more emphasis on service than on sales, feeling that if you try your best to give good service, sales will follow. It is their business philosophy that every appliance sold by theirorganization must be backed with adequate service therefore all of Bennet’s servicemen receive constant factory training as new products come out and there is always a good stock of replacement parts on hand if service needs arrive. In striving for goodservice, Bennet’s feel that one ofthe best ways to * guarantee the customer good service on the appliance purchase is to oply- sell quality Brand Name appliances and that’s why you’ll see such famous brands as Frigidaire,- Maytag, Magna vox, RCA Victor, Ben*Hur, Sunbeam and Hoover at Bennet’s. AT BENNET’S, THERE’S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR QUALITY IThe present physical plant of Bonnet’s facilitates vast warehousing and very adequate servicing of appliances. The Main Bennet’s building is 34 x 134 feet with a gross area of approximately 4,600 sq. ft. of which abdut 1,500 sq. ft. is devoted to the main appliance showroom. The remaining area in the imain building is devoted to used appliance display, parts stock room, and appliance service. A second Bennet’s building houses the warehouse. It is about 2,840 sq; ft. in area. Bennet’s have a fleet of four service and delivery trucks.rBennet’s invite all to this 15lh Anniversary celebration which will be held May 12-28.
