1 anniversary of bis birth. JKr Thudium first saw the light o#day in Wurtenberg, Germany,Anrii 12. 1823. Was the son ofDaniel and Christiana Blessin'-Thudium, natives of the same province. In 1847 he decided to come to the United States, andtook passage on a sailing vessel, which was fifty-six days making the voyage across the stormy Atlantic. Mr. Thudium still relates many interesting accounts ofthat voyage and told the writer he spent his twenty-forth birthday in Havre, France, seventy-one years ago, on his way out here, where he felt very lonelyas he was all alone and amongstrangers. He landed in New York going at oftce to Philadelphia where he remained sixyears. The first work he did there was making shoes for Am erican soldiers who were enlisting for the Mexican war. He
