Civil Rightists Plan BoycottA joihfc committee of civilrights organizations in the Petersburg area unanimously endorsed an economic withdraw! in downtown Petersburg, effective Sunday for an indefinite period.The resolution was adopted at a mass meeting in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church last night.A joint statement was issued by NAACP Chapter President Dr. L. C. Johnson, David E. Gunter, Petersburg Improvement Association president, Dr. C, M. Colson, Ettrick Community Association president, Bristol Rush, NAACP Youth Chapter president, and youth leader Roland Sherrod, which indicated that the movement was not directed at any merchant, but at the system which leaves practically all public accommodations in Petersburg still segregated.In addition to the economic withdrawl, it was proposed that the youth members of the various civil rights organizations engage in necessary non-violent selective picketing.Scheduleddt.
