% George Merton Gooch was bom April 23, 1919, rear Purdin, Missouri. The family later moved to Laclede, I and George was graduated form the Laclede high school in 1937. He enlisted in the Navy on July 26, 1940, and after a period of training at Great Lakes, Illinois, he was assigned to the Battle ship Oklahoma, and was among the casua'ties after the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7,1941. ■ I f § : jGeorge was a member of the Laclede Methodist church, being baptized as a child. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Linn Gooch, two brothers, Wallace and Eugene Gooch of Laclede, and three sisters,Mrs. Hermia Molloy of Laclede, Mrs. Guy Peters of Browning, and Mrs. Fern Catlin, Topeka, Kansas.
