The. reception was held in the Massillon state hospital auditorium.MRS. MARX received a plaque from last years winner of the award, Mrs. Elizabeth Carmichael. Judging for the awards was done by Canton Municipal Court Judge 1 Robert P. Wilson, the Rev, Louis |M, Brereton of St. Paul s Episcopal church of Canton, and Lloyd : Swan, director of pupil personnel Tor the Canton city schools, t The nominating letter submit-I ted by Massillon state hospital officials said Mrs. Marx “assists the recreational therapist on ward programs such as rhythm' hand, where patients are on prolonged treatment. Although thesepatients have a short attention span. Mrs, Marx is able to sustain their interest in the activity by her constant, personal attention.'’“After Mrs. Marx finishes her work in recreation she goes to a ward in which there are bed patients and helps feed and groom them. She usually brings special treats for these people, such as fruit and cake.'4: Mrs. Marx also contributes supplies and materials for parties for patients and provided refresh-:ments for special occasions.“Mrs. Marx is a constant worker for good community relations. She has spoken to many clubs' •and Sunday school classes about the hospital program. She is a dependable, conscientious and cheerful volunteer worker who has given hundreds of hours of her time to help our mentally ill patients.”Airs. Marx is the wife of Walker Marx. They reside at 1809 Alt. Vernon ave NW, Canton. She has been a member of the Gray Lady unit since 195?. The unit was. organized by the Massillon chapter of the American Red Cross and hospital officials.Receiving honorable mentioncertificates for their volunteer services were -Mr. and Airs. Howard Raak of Canton who were nominated by Recovery, Inc. and .Mrs.. Lester Wise who was nominated by the Aultman hospital occupational therapy department.More than 225 persons attended the reception sponsored by the hospital and the Inter-Faithfuls Serving Alassillon state hospital. A Washington high school 18-piece orchestra under the direction of Orin “Dykae” Ford, pro-vded music for the reception.At a recognition service Wednesday afternoon. 21 hospital aides who were considered in the hospital's aide of the year selection won by Mrs. Hazel Thayer, in April, received pins and certificates. !They were Garnet Hawkins, Edna Grant, Violet Hoffman.
