Catherine Wagner Hammer.Fifty years ago today Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kammer of St. John ware married at Baltimore. Md., and today they are celebrating their golden wed-dingr anniversary, receiving the congratulations of friends and relatives.Both have passed the three score and ten mark, Mr. Kammer being lt;w years old. while his bride of fifty years ago is one year hl» Junior. Both are enjovlng fairly good health, and promised to trip the light fantastic today with the same pleasure, althought not with the same endurance, of half acentury ago.The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Kammer was the occasion for a hair-holiday at St. John, for when the celebrants began to make up the list offriends who should join them in the celebration, they found that none could be overlooked, and as a result the Invitation has gone out to the whole country-s id e.Many were In attendance at the wedding high mass which was celebrated this morning by the Rev. A. M. Buchhelt at the St. John Catholic church, and more will be in attendance this evening when the celebrations Is at Itshighest, at Rammer's hall. , e*o a ♦Mr. Kammer was born in Hesse-Darmatadt. Germany, Sept. 22. 1838. At tneage of eight years he accompanied his parents to America, landing in Baltimore. There he went to school and learned the tailors trade and in 1S60 re-moved to Cumberland, Md.. following his trade there for eight years. Hereturned to Baltimore for another year and in 1869 came to Bake county. Here he followed a varied career, teaching school at first during the winter months and later traveling for the Katholieche Volksueftung of Baltimore. Hespent another eight years on the road for a liquor house.On Jan. 1, 1887, he was appointed postmaster of St. John, which positionhe has held uncontinually. with the exception of an eight months period. He!s the postmaster at the present time.Mr and Mrs. Kammer were married on May 3, 1S6G, Mrs. Kammer havingbeen Mrs. Catherine Wagner. To this union were born nine children, andsix of these are still living. Two died in infancy, while Andrew died atWhiting three vears ago. Those surviving are Mrs. Mat Schaefer, Mrs. PeterKoch and Mri.‘ Joseph Scher of Whiting; Nicholas of St. John. Michael ofEnglewood, and Theodore of Dyer. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Kammer havetwenty-eight grandchildren. _Fortune has smiled kindly upon Mr. and Mrs. Kammer and has permittedthem to retire from the active life which they led, and their hundreds offriends agree that their cup of happiness of the old couple should be filled today for they can look back upon an honorable past marked by the indu^ryand integrity of bpttlu .
