D•Tillne County 50-Year Club HearsMuch of Historical InformationAn enjoyable meeting of the Boone County Fifty Year Club was held Thursday, March 22, in the G. A. R. room at the Court90House with more than isteredregof Boonefather ofPennsyl* to man-Registration began at 11 a m. and from then until 1 p. m. Mrs. Gertie Reynoldson and Pat Marron with their violins and W. W, McCall at the piano kept the air full of music. R. E. Haliock. one of the faithful entertainersfor many years past, was un able to be present.The members brought covered dishes and from 12 noon to 1 p. m. the G. A. R. No. 12 ladies served the dinner. Before the dinner, C. A Johnson pronounced grace.In the absence of the president of the club, Robert Me* Birnie, who was unable to be present because of illness. Roy Davis, vice president, conducted the meeting. At 1 p. m. Mr. Davis called upon Rev. C. O. Anderson of the Open Bible Church to conduct community singing. A number of old favorites w*ere sung, Miss ElizabethBrunton accompanied on the piano with Bert Wayde on the drums.Mr. Davis called upon the secretary-treasurer, Miss Elizabeth Brunton, to read the minutes of the Sept. 22, 1955 meeting and to give the treasurer’s report. She read the names of eight members who had passed away since the previous meeting: Mrs. Lillie Mathers. Mrs. Mary E. Boone, Mrs. Fred Goetz-man (a charter member), James Pritchard, Mrs. James (Carrie) Pritchard, Mrs. Otto C. Herman, Mrs. Frank Myers and Robert Royster.There was more community singing led by Rev. Here as in the past with the Indians Lott expected to carry on a thriving business w'ith the Sioux Indians, but he did not get along W'ith the Sioux tribe as he had with the Sac and Foxes. When the Sioux chief informed Lott that he was an intruder and gave Lott a certain amount of time in which to leave, Lott refused, and his refusal caused the Indians to raid Lott’s family and stock. The Indians were thewere milesof theirtheBoone County House. In 1849 a schoolhouse was built near Honey Creek and this was probably the first schoolhouse built in the county. Boone County was established with its present boundaries in Feb,, 1847, about two months after the state was admitted to the union. In Jan , 1846, Mr. Charles W. Gaston erected the first log cabin in Boone County. The first session of the District Court in Boone County convened Oct. 6, 1861.Boone County's first houseintruders for they beyond the bordershunting grounds. During raid Lott hid himself nearby and watched the Indians destroy his property. Then Lott and hisstep son, a boy about 16 yearsold, started for the nearest settlement to get help. The wife and 12-year-old son were thus left alone. The Indian chief ordered this boy, Milton, to round all the horses on the placeCounty's first court was a two-story frame structure located at 3rd and I-re mont (later the site of the Mallary Drug Store and now the Anderson Furniture Store), built and ready for use about Sept. I, 1857 at a cost of $2,207.99. At this time the population of Boone County was 3.700. When the second court ! house was built the old one was I converted into a dry goods store, j Not long afterward the store J burned down. This building was moved to another location soon after the first sale of lots and became the St. James Hotel.
