TURNERSome 100 relatives and Iriends attended a festive reception honoring Mrs. Sue Jackley of 10634 Olive, Temple-City, who celebrated her 100th .birLbday nn March 21, at die Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Temple City. ■ •• •■ Hosts for the reception were the honoree’s son and daughter -in - law, Mr. and Mrs. James Jackley of Temple City; her daughter and son - in - law, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Stevens of Culver City and another, daughter and son - In -law, Mr.' and Mrs. John banner of Beil. Also assisting with the. celebration were Mrs. Jackley’s seven grandchildren,' her 15 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.,' Adding to the festivities at .the reception were many coloful flower-arrangements, a huge birthday cake complete with- candles, and placed so all could see, a birthday card of congratulations hand written to Mrs. Jackley by California Governor Ronald A. Reagan.When asked how it felt to be a- hundred years old, Mrs. JacJdey said many people had asked her that same question.- AH I can say is that I have enjoyed all .of my life, .always tried to' have a good time, and still do. I've had plenty of heartaches, along the way, but managed to overcome them. I have had a good life and it's not over yet.”Sue Jackley is an amazing person. None of this sitting around for her, she said. For-the past nine years she has been making her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Jackley in Temple City. She takes care of her own room and washes dishes, but she doesn’t sweep the kitchen floor anymore. If I spill water on the floor, though, I get down and wipe it up—have .to keep nimble you know,” she hurried to add. Her hearing is fine, but her eyesight.is not what it used to be. However, she does try to sew a seam every day and'watches her favorite shows on television. She likes programs featuring children the best.s %Born Susan A. Minder on March 23, 1871 in New Mata-moras, • Ohio, -Mrs. Jackley was married to.Thomas,E. Jackley on Jan.- 29, 1896 in Bellalre,. Ohio. They moved to Kane, Penn.-, living there-for-some 20 years before coming to California in 1928. Mr. Jackley was a glass blower and rated one of the best in that almost lost art. He passed awry !n 1937.% •' Mrs. Jackley Is the mother of seven children, three of whom, are still living. Before, coming to Temple City, she made her home with her daughter and-son -in ■ law, Mr. and Mrs. John Danner, in Bell for 27 years.
