The area was predominantly a farm community before World War II. The area was also known as North Palos.The building of the Calumet Sag Channel provided employment for residents of the area. The canal water level was lowered and a drainage course called “Lucas Ditch” was dug. This drained hundreds of acres of Palos Hills. In 1916, the Cook County Forest Preserve District purchased 50 acres of land next to Palos Hills.Sacred Heat Church was built in 1873 at 100th Street and Kean Avenue. It burned down in 1904. A new church was built eight months later at 107th Street just west of Kean Avenue. A third Sacred Heart Church was built in 1968 at 8200 W. 111th St.The village incorporated in 1958.
