There will be about tke9ame acreage planted in cotton as last year.Have any of you, after an absence of twenty-five years, visited the Church of your boyhood day9 ? I did last first Sunday, and Barker’s Crdek was the place. I saw but one of the old men present that twenty five years ago were regular attendants. That one was Mr. J. C. Williams, who is probably eighty-five years old, but be looked to me about the same as bo did years ago. A visit to the cemetery told where the most of the old men were. On tbe headstones I noticed the following names. I will give the year of each one’s birth as recorded on headstone : David Cummings 1790. Wm. M. Green 1814, Jame9 Armstrong 1777, Archibald Armstroog 1799, John McAdams 180G, Robert Cummins 1812, John Hunt 1803, Folly Huot 1802, Caleb Callins 180G, Andrew Armstrong 1808, Thos. M. Bran-yon 1814, John Shirley 1821, R. N. Wright 1812. There were several more who were regular attendants at the time I speak of, who were buried at other places. Themen that wero boy a forty yeara ago are the old men now. There are bat few men (probably net more than a dozen) In Honea Path Township now over seventy years old. Why Is it we have fewer old men now than formerly ? Was the war the cause of It?Rev. Mr. Hawkins is the pastor at Barker’s Creek, and Is mach beloved by the members.Misa Mamie Bell, of Due West, has oharge of the school, and Is liked well as a teacher. She ba9 done good and faithful work. The Bcbooi will probably close this week. She does not think Webster made bis old speller wrong side in front, bat that a child should learn their letters some time ia tbe beginning of their education. Yoa must teach for us again, Mias Mamie.Politics are in a lukewarm condition. There are nearly as many antis a9 reformers in some places, I wish some one would tell me what has been reformed in the last four yeara. If there has been any reformation I don’t know what they did with it. This reminds me of what old Uncle Reuben Leach Baid to Abbeville’s Sheriff. Mr. Leach worked on the railroad for a number of yoara. Ho was working away one day with a regular railroad lick, when Sheriff Nance chanced to pass by and said, hurrah, uncle Reuben, that’s the way I got my start.” Uncle Reuben replied, and what did you do with it?” I say, hurrah for Joshua.
