ALMEDA GIFFORD Has 89th BirthdayPioneer Resident Is Feted On tier 89thCALDWELL — Mrs. Almeda Gifford. who was bom and roared in the Silver City area, was honored March 17 at open house on her 89th birthday.More than 100 friends signed the guest book at the reception given at the home of Mrs. Clifford’s daughter, Mrs. W. L. Vassal in Caldwell. Mrs. Cora Vassar and Elmer Gifford, all of Caldwell. Mrs. Alina Wilder, who lives in Port Angeles, Washington. and a son, Ed Gifford of Bend, Ore., were unable to attend.Mrs. Gifford s mother had crossed the plains in a covered wagon and settled in Boise, where she later married James C. Bernard. They moved to Wilson in Owyhee County, where they operated Bernard’s Ferry across the Snake River.Here Almeda Bernard was bornand grew to womanhood. She attended schools at Silver City and Baker, Ore., and was married to Rueben J. Gifford in 1895. They lived in DeLarnar four years then moved to Reynolds, also in Owyhee County, where they lived until 1942 when Mr. Gilford became ill. Since his death in 1941 Mrs. Gifford has lived at 512 S. Fifth St. in Caldwell.
