Delphi High had started football in 1905 when Dr. Haugh coached the team in wins over Logansport and Peru, and two losses to Rensselaer (state champions)and to Wabash. In 1906 the Delphi team had an outstanding year with 5 wins and 2 losses. āDā monograms were awarded for the first time, and a S40 surplus was recorded for the team. Letter winners in 1906 were: Burr Balser, Richard Higginbotham, CliffordHildebran, Clay Pearson, William Conway, CarlShriner, John Shaffer, Charles Nelson, Leroy Dame, Herman Douglas (Captain), Raymond Elders, Walter Thomas, John Roach, and Joe Ryan.I think the football program lasted until WW I, and was not revived after that. Only Bob Bradshaw could explain the when and why of the disappearance of football at DHS until it reappeared in 1946 under Harry Cooper, a volunteer coach.
