Hodgson, enitier-taiined at a family dinner ait their home, Lot 7, St. Clements.The daughter of the late Mr.and Mrs. William Fddler, St.Clements, Bertha Fidier attended school at Miapieflom and inSit. dements.Her marriage to Charles Hodgson took place in St. dements Church, Mapleton, in 1907.Mrs. Birston recalled that her first teacher in the old school north of MapJeton Church was a Miiss McDougall.She was a member of a Mapleton Hospital Aid group many years ago. And has worked with the A.C.W. for St. Clements Church.When attending her firstschool ait Mapleton, she recalls having to build fires at times, as the first pupil to arrive ait | the school had to start the fire!Those days are long gone, one might say.four sons, William,Edwi n, deceased *,and Tom, OldThey hadVancouver;Alvin,England.Her second son, Edwin, wasa Flying Officer in the R.C.A.F. serving in the Second World War. He was with the Air Force cm the battlefield in Holland din 1942 when several men were needed to take food to the soldiers in the trendies. Two Englishmen and! two Canadiansvolunteered to drop the food tothe men in the trenches. All four were killed in this action. Edwin has one son living in Winnipeg, Stewart Merton Hodgson.Mrs. Birston recalls attending a small wooden school, north of Mapleton Church; then god mg to classes in the. Council Chambers, East Selkirk and afterwards to Kitchener School.Shown above is Mrs. Birston’ssecond-son Edwin Hodgson who was killed in action in the Second World War.
