$1,000,000 WEIR ESTATEIs Claimed by Son Who Resides inNEW YORK, Mar. 19, (Special)— That the estate of Col. John Weir, the noted mining engineer, who was a Titanic victim, is being claimed in its entirety by Robin D. Weir, an Australian, woh alleges that he is theonly legitimate heir of the colonel, despite the fact that the estate was left to Harold M. Weir, formerly of Goshen, Ind., son of Col. Weir, became known yesterday when Michael Laffan of Lawrence, Long Island, appeared before Surrogate Fowler to press the settlement of a $2,000 debt.Attorneys for Harold M. Weir, administrator of the estate, informedthe surrogate of the claim of Robin Weir, and said that because of actions taken by Australian attorneys the estate was tied up and that no settlement could be made with Laffan.The surrogate was informed that Rc bin Weir declared himself the son cfCol. Weir by a marriage contractedinsists the marriage later contracted in this country by his father is invalid. Col. Weir left a fortune estimatedis made sole heir.Mr. and Mrs. Weir left here last May and now reside at No. 31G Frederick street, San Francisco, Cal. Whiie here they lived on South Eighth St. Mr. Weir came here as a real estate promoter when the Roller Bearing addition was opened. His father was en route here when he lost his life in the Titanic disaster. Mrs.Weir, the w idow, cames to this city about a year ago and left with her son. While here the Weirs referred to the Australian claimant. While it was understood io cally the Weir estate was large, no estimate was ever placed upon it.
