Leaving Independence, Mo.,s and Council Bluffs (ivanes-ville), la., they journeyed along the Platte, crossed, the Rbckies at the famous South Pass, traversed the Valley of the Snake, crossed the Blue mountains aiid negotiated the gorge of the Columbia and arrived in the Willamette valley and scattered in all directions.Two hundred wagons came, bearing ,1000 American citizens, men, women* and' children. They came with their plows tied to their wagons, their household effects with them, their cattle following.It was called the “Great -Migration” ^and settled for all time the fate or the “Oregon Country.”Our Opportunity.On no less authority / than the officials’ of -the federal bureau of public roads and the highway commission of the state, of Oregon, we,have it that the Old Oregon, Trail .
