Observe Wedding AnniversaryMr. and Mrs. Richard W. Oliver Sr. were honored recently on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event took place in the Cotillion Room at the Cumberland Elks Lodge and was hosted by the couple’s sons.The couple was married Feb. 8, 1935, at the Centre Street United Methodist Church. The late Rev. Harry Evaul was the officiating clergyman.Mrs. Oliver, the former Lillian Davis, is the daughter of the late William F. and Rebecca (Proffitt) Davis. Mr. Oliver is the son of the late James P. and Julia (Whitacre) Oliver. He is retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation. Both Mr. and Mrs. Oliver enjoy gardening and traveling.Mr. and Mrs. Oliver are the parents of two sons, Richard Oliver Jr., Cumberland, andRobert E. Oliver, LaVale.A gold and white color scheme was used in the decorations and a large, gilt money tree centered the gift table.Mrs. Maxine Squires was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Mary Ellen Helm, Mrs. Naomi Oliver and Mrs. Charlene Keller assisted with serving the food and Miss Tracey Oliver and Miss Zingray Shoemaker served the punch. Mrs. Bobbie Grove was in charge of the guest bwk and R. Troy Oliver seated the guests. Music was provided by Martin E.
