Alexander will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary during an open house at the Mineola PublicLibrary on Sunday afternoon. The couple are Wood County natives and have lived all their lives in and around Mineola.Couple Will Mark60th AnniversaryMr. and Mrs. W. E. Alexander of 115 Elliott Street will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday. March 21. at an open house to be held in the Meredith Room of the Mineola Public Library.Serv ing as hosts and hostesses for the occasion will be their five children and their spouses. Hours for the open house will be 2 to 5 p.m.. and friends of the couple are invited through the press to attend the event.Mr. Alexander and the former Mable Mooring of Red land were married in the Red-land community by the Rev. B. F. Blaylock. Both Mr. and Mrs. Alexander have lived all their lives in the Mineola area.Until 1950 the Alexanders farmed in the Redland community. but they moved that year to mineola where they opened Alexander's Grocery on South Pacific Street. They are parents of five children: Erna Alexander of Wells. Texas; Henry Alexander of Magnolia. Texas; Thurman Alexander of Houston; Mrs. Edna Johnson of Mineola; and Gerald Alexanderof Pasadena. Texas. They have 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.Both Mr. and Mrs. Alexander continue to enjoy an active and busy life. They each work several hours every day at Alexander's Grocery, helping their son in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Johnson, run the store. Mrs. Alexander also has a number of hobbies including making quilts and embroidering. She also likes to garden.Mr. Alexander, who farmed for many years raising cotton, corn, peanuts and peas, always has a large garden which takes up a lot of his time.Asked how they account for their longevity, the couple replied. By keeping busy and living a clean life.Several local residents who were present at the couples wedding back in 1916 are expected to attend Sunday’s open house. They include Bob Blaylock of Mineola, Bill Cypert of Smith Chapel, and Jim Turner and Perry Turner of Hawkins.
