Va., March 16.— Forty detectives from Richmond aided by half a hundred deputy sheriffs and a dozen feudists at daybreak today again took up the chase for the Allen gang of outlaws, whose raid on the Hillsville courthouse and its sequel, has resulted in death of five persons. Juror Fowler, who was struck by a bullet, is not expected to live through the day. His death will bring the list up to six. t All telegraph and telephone wires leading to the towns and villages in Southern Virginia have been cut. The outlaw clan and raiders, 16 strong, are strongly entrenched in a mountain pass, aw'aiting the posses. The outlaw’s are plentifully supplied with ammunition.“My wife died like a good wife should,” wras the only comment Sidney Allen, the outlaw leader, had to make today on the death of Mrs. Allen. She lost her life in a pitched battle with a posse in their mountain home while helping defend her outlaw husband. The posse had surrounded the bandit who had strongly barricaded himself in his home. as fast as the women of his household could load his rifles he kept blazing away at the posse of deputy sheriffs. After a short lull the posse stormed the house. Mrs. Allen was lying dead in a corner wdth a loaded rifle in her hands. Her husband lay groaning In the corner, bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound.“\rou got me because T was too badly wounded to man my gun/’ | he told the leader of the pcsse.
