Former Local ManSeeks JudgeshipOn Appellate Courto:citlUIidntlt;€neocPoevsdJudge Dewey KelleyJudge Dewey Kelley, of the Indiana Appellate Court, announced his intention to seek renomination at the Republican State Convention in the following statement: “I wish to announce my intention of seeking renomination to the office of Judge of the Appellate Court for the Second District, subject to the will of the voting delegates at the convention of the Republican Party in June.Judge Kelley, a former local man, was born in Memphis, near Jeffersonville, Indiana, and was admitted to the practice of law in Richmond, and engaged in the active practice in Whiting for 29 years. He was elected and served foi* 5 years as judge of the Whiting City Court and he is a past president of the Whiting Bar Association. A life-long Hoosier, he was elected to the Appellate Court in 1952 with a majority in this state of 238,724 votes.He served with distinction in the United States Navy in World War I, being assigned to the Naval Air Station in France, and is a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as chairman of the Whiting-Robertsdale Chapter of the American Red Cross and for many years was attorney for the Whiting Aid and Relief Society, a charitable organization. For some 20 years he served as attorney for the Board of School Trustees of Whiting. Among the fraternal and social organizations of which he is a member are the Indianapolis Press club, Shrine,Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, Scottish Rite, Masons, Eagles, and Tau Kappa Epsilon. Professionally, he is a member of the American Bar Association, Indiana Bar Association, Hammond Bar Association, Whiting Bar Association, and Indiana Judges’ Association.
