tagles fail to placeWestmar college Eagles failed to place anyone in the sixteenth annual NAIA championships held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Momingside college.The Eagles entered seven wrestlers, but found the wrestling this year to be very strong competition with only three of the Eagles advancing past the first round.Adams State defended their team title with Central Washington second and Huron college finishing in third place.The district 15 NAIA Iowa colleges only had two place winners in the tournament. Steve Newhard of Momingside was third at 177 and Henry Banke was third at heavyweight.Other area schools that Westmar competes with that did well in the tournament included Wayne with three place winners and both U of Nebraska at Omaha and Huron with two.Leonard Underhill Iowa district 15 NAIA champion had the best showing in the meet.Underhilf who was not seeded in the tournament entered the meet with a 13-1 record and won his first match over Arnold Brown of Franklin college of Indiana with a fall in 4:01.In the second round Underhill ran into Phillip Gonzales of University of Nebraska at Omaha, the defending champion and who went on to win again this year.Underhill lost a 11-7 match to Gonzales, but due to Gonzales winning Underhill came back in the wrestle backs.In his'first wrestle back match he won over Mike Hunting of Cedarville College in Ohio 5-0.In his next match he lost 11-0 to Larry Bridgewater of Pembroke college in North Carolina.Most of the points came in the second round with Bridgewater on top. He picked up eight points on three near falls, and in the final period got a reversal and picked up a point on riding time.Bridgewater finished sixth in the meet.Jack Britton wrestling at 134 pounds won over Thomas Baker of Colorado college school of Mines 6-2.In the second round he lost 7-3 to Ron Patterson of California State bf Pennsylvania. who went on to finish in sixth place.Britton came back in the wrcstlcbacks due to Patterson advancing into the quarterfinals.Britton went against Brian Bcasmor * of Pembroke and after a first period takedown and a second period nearfall was leading 4-0.With only 14 seconds left in the secondLe Mars DaSpcRay Johnson speriod Beasmorc got a reversal and a three point near Tall to lead 5-4.Britton got an escape and with a minute of riding time on the clock was loading 6-5.With less than a minute left in the match. Britton was warned for stalling and after the warning Britton went after a takedown, but Beasmorc got the takedown and won 7-6.Stan Peterson was the only othei' winner for the Eagles. In his opening match ho won 10-6 over Dalton Sowers of California Lutheran.In his second match he was pinned by Randy Haught of California state of Pennsylvania in 3:05.Haught went on to finish in fourth place.In the wrestlebacks Peterson and John
