j Committee Proposes Amendment to Constitution to Per-mit Timber Severance TaxMADISON, Win.—By The Associated Press.—Tax relief on forests, a step in the reforestation program I contemplated foj* Wisconsin, would be ' pirssible under a proposed constitutional amendment provided for in aresolution by the senate judiciarycommittee.The resolution would amend thetaxing clause of the state constitution to promote improvements, including forests. This would be accomplishedby adding to the basic statement thatj“the rule of taxation shall be uniform,M the provision that the legislation may prescribe classification forimprovements, minerals and forests, including those severed from the land.I The purpose of the amendment, Attorney General Ekcrri explained. It would permit counties to give financial aid to persons more than 65 years old who are incapacitated for gainful work. The relief would be limited to an amountlt;lt;lt;ttmmwhich, when added to the person’sincome, would make a total of not more than $2 a day.In lieu of the $500 homestead exemption from taxation, repeal of which is sought in the present legislature, George A. Nelson.
