THE HAZER.The exceedingly amusing and highly humorous “college prank has developed into murder at Cornell and should be treated accordingly.—New York Advertiser.The Cornell lesson should be severe enough to awaken students everywhere to the criminality as well as the foolishness of college hazing and rowdyism in all its phases.—Troy (N. Y.) Times.The conviction has been steadily growing that there is only one way to deal with the brutes who pnctice hazing. Their offense must not be regarded in the light of an undergraduate joke, to- be excused however severe may be the results of it.—Newark (N. J.) Advertiser.The serious consequence of hazing at Cornell should form an example of sufficient power to break the practice at all our colleges for good and all, for the outcome was murder. A severe punishment of the offenders is needed for the protection of life hereafter.—Boston Herald.Boys will be boys, and college students will have their fun, but fun that results in manslaughter is deserving quite a different name. The ftm of the Cornell sophomore through which a colored servant lost her life and a number of freshmen were brought to death’s door, deserves to be expiated in prison.—Philadelphia Times.
