BE^TY MILL MRChairmen Plan Varied ActivitiesDuring Nederland's Diamond Jubilee Celebration March 15-18 a history of the city will be published and offered to the public, according to Dan Marcontel, general chairman of the celebration.Mrs. Jack Fleming is chairman of the history committee for the Jubilee and is in charge of publication of the history and gathering information.In 1969 the Chamber ofCommerce and city built a Windmill Museum to house artifacts of the city andMrs. Fleming headed a committee to gather and display these artifacts. Since the museum opened more than 25,000 persons have visited from several countries and many states.Mrs. Fleming and other members of the committee have conducted tours for school children, youth groups and other groups.A native of Nederland, Mrs. Fleming is the former Marie Rienstra, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rienstra, early settlers. They have four children, Mrs. James Michael Morgan and Mrs. Bruce Stephen Powers, both of Houston; Stephen Grady Fleming of Austin and Mark Daniel Fleming of Nederland. The couple has two grandsons.Mrs. Dorothy Ryland is serving as chairman for the Nederland Diamond Jubilee Art Exhibit and also of Nederland Diamond Jubilee Ladies Style Show.Mrs. Ryland has taught in area public schools and at Lamar University. She is past president of the Nederland Art Guild. At the present she is painting professionally and her most recent showings have been at the Driftwood Restaurant in Port Arthur and at Brown Cinema I 11 in Orange.The Nederland Diamondjudging; HelenBodemuller, publicity;and Randy Dumesnil, college student art.The Ladies Style Show will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 315 Hardy, at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16. Fashions will be shown by local merchants. Admission will be free and tickets may be picked up from Betty Hill at Nederland City Hall or Ruth Crane at Nederland Chamber of Commerce. There will be 250 tickets-available.Mrsf M. J. Stappers, chairman of the Old Timers banquet of the Nederland Diamond Jubilee celebration, expects more than 300 personsto attend this part of theevent.She emphasizes that the public is invited to attend.The former Christina Doornbos, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jake Doornbos, Mrs. Stappers is a native of Nederland. Her parents were among the first settlers immigratingmember of the historical committee for the Diamond Jubilee observance of the 75th anniversary of the city's founding.The Old Timers banquet will be held in the Nederland High school cafeteria. Tickets are available in the Chamber of Commerce and city offices. The banquet will be held March 16.Mrs. Betty Hill, secretary to City Manager D. B. Henson of the City of Nederland is chairman of the Prayer Breakfast for the Diamond Jubilee Celebration observance of the city's 75th Anniversary.The breakfast will be held March 18 at 7:30 a.m. in the Nederland High school cafeteria and will be open to the public.Mrs. Hill has lived in Nederland most of her life.After graduation from Nederland High school, she attended Lamar University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.For several years she lived in Houston and was employed by Tenneco, Inc.
