Santa Fe.Argel Weeks, vice-president of the firm, said this is the fourth major expansion of the store since 3952, and will boost total square feet to 33,000. He said this will make Weeks the largest combined grocery and non-foods store under one roof in Salina.ware, toys, glassware, housewares, electrical 'and rugs.All departments in the present building — groceries, meat, produce, drugs, frozen foods,and shoes and clothing — willbe enlarged. Midwest Steel Structure of Salina has the general contract. The target date for completion is April 15.Weeks said it will be air conditioned, and equipped with automatic sprinkler fire protection. It will have an entrance and exit on 5th Street for customers shopping for non-foods only.AH non-food items will be merchandised in the new addition. Featured wilt be 60 feet of glass show eases for watches, rings, binoculars, pistols, cameras and transistor radios; and 60 feet of display for small appliances, radios, phonographs and clocks.Weeks presently ha* more than $0 employes. An increase in employment ta expected with completion of the new addition.IThe Weeks grocery business began in 1945 in a 5000-square-foot building at 252 S. Santa Fe. The present store was opened in 1952.
