Sectional■ Continued from Page B1While this sectional showcased neutrality, Centralia had a distinct advantage playing in a sectional on its home-court. That deep south sectional usually played out at Salem, which normally didn’t make it to the semifinals. However, a home floor advantage didn’t help the top-seeded Orphans this year. They lost 47-46 in double overtime to Mount Vernon on Tuesday. Then Belleville West upset No. 2-seeded Murphysboro on Wednesday. So it’s No. 6-rated Belleville West against No. 4-ranked Mount Vernon for the Centralia Sectional championship tonight and the right to play the East St. Louis-Alton winner Tuesday. The Rams won a sectional title last year before bowing to East St. Louis in the Carbondale Super-Sectional.“It’s good for our conference to have three of the four teams playing in the two sectional title games,” Brey said. “It makes a statement about the conference.“Maybe the Illinois High School Association knew what they were doing when they sent the three Belleville schools to the Centralia Sectional instead of the Collinsville one,” Brey said. “If Belleville West had been in our sectional, they might have beeh seeded lower than they were at Centralia.”West finished last in the SWC and has just one senior on its roster, but the Maroons have come together at the right time, Brey said.“They have a lot of juniors and typically at this time of the year, juniors will start playing like seniors,” he said.“We’ve had that happen with some our players. Look at Blaine Everage. He’s really come on down the stretch.”By STEVETelegraph sEDWA St. Louis i High Schc that will c al prep ba using an i Yet thiThe Telegraph/RUSS SMITHEdwardsville's Matt Flach looks to make a pass around Alton’s Ryan Everage during first-half play Wednesday In the Class AA Sectional semifinal at the Vadalabene Center.a minor coach Ber “We t won’t (Southwi champion sectional will just 1 and do w It’ll hurt our team Dema guard « Bellevill point of tion.
