Former and present Girl Scouts and adult volunteers will be joining together Saturday, March 12, at Hadland Park for an Old Fashioned Family ReunionPicnic. *Reunion For Girl Scoutsi\Girl Scouting in Southern Nevada has grown considerably Mnre its inception in Boulder City in 1932. soon after the start of construction of Boulder Dam and the creation of the government town Following the organization of the first troop, the program continued actively in several troops through the 1930 s in Boulder City.In the early 1940‘s, the Girl Scout movement saw a beginning in both Las Vegas and Henderson At this time Henderson was the center of activity. by virtue of the fact that it claimed more troops than any other town.In 1944. m Las Vegas, efforts were made to start a Council, with live scout troops as a basts A Clark County Girl Scout Association was established. and pleas to the Community Chest yielded $1500 to pay a salary and expenses for an executive director Myra Dodge filled this position for two yearsTwo years later in 1947, Bernice Warner became the executive director and served the Council for 13 years Dunng that time, an office was established in Las Vegas and many more troops organizedThe Girl Scout movement grew to such an extent in the 1950 s. the three communities, Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City, united their efforts On Aug 18.1950. Articles of Incorporation were drawn up to form Frontier Area Girl Scout Council which would serve the Clark County area. Two years later the name waa changed to become Frontier Girl Scout Council.Many other developements took place in the 50 s.Girl Scout camps had beenrated at Lee Canyon since 1930’s and the time had come to concentrate efforts on establishing a scout camp at For Canyon in the Charleston Range. Help came from various service organizations who were responsible for the construction of buildings at the camp site.Foxtail Camp went into fullopwations in 1954. and has seen a great deal of expansion in the years sinceFollowing formation of Frontier Council in 1950. the first Girl Scout cookie sale was held. The girl who sold the most cookies was named the Cookie Queen'' and held a6lace of honor in theelldorado Parade 1901 marked the realization of an official Girl Scout building in Las Vegas, through Uu efforts of the community and the Fleischman FoundationThalia Dondero became the executive director in that year.
