Four sons of the Koethe family, three or more of the Markle sons and various others j were among them. Notations appear after names in the membership record, such as. “gone to war/’ “entered the army” and others. One is “killed in battle at Siege of e Vicksburg, age 19.** A son of the Markle lamily died in an army hospital. 1 can still remember the soldier boys, after the close of the j war. as they would come around visiting on Sundays and holidays j1 in their blue army uniforms.Grandpa Schroeder, Chaeburg.)' is 87; the oldest member of our # church st the present time — inyear*—Is Jacob Ben del, living inChipmunk Coulee. He is 89 yearsold. William Belling, R. 1, is a close second. He is 88 years old-Joined In 1868 The oldest member in continu- I ous membership is Augusta Koethe, who joined our church at 1t a camp meeting in Chipmunk !Coulee on July 21, 3868. Her home \at the time was Tomah, Wis. Tomsh continued until 1872 as apart of the La Crosse charge, but 'meanwhile she had married L. ;Koethe and La Crosse has been lt;her home ever since.
