Alien celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at the home of their son, Mr. Charles E. Allen, near Tiffin. A' shower of cards and letters from relatives end friends who were unable to attend in person was a pleasant diversion of the forenoon.About fifty guests gathered in the afternoon for an Informal reception in honor of the aged CO'i* pie. The program included a talk by Mr. H. E. Heberling, a reading Sixty Yeas Ago and Today, and a sketch of the lives of Mr. and Mm Alien. An attractively appointed luncheon concluded the courtesy. Those attending from out of toVfh were Mr. and Mrs. W« W. Young of North Liberty, Mr. George L. Eaton and family of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. W. They settled on a farm near that place, moving to Jasper county, Iowa, in 1S75. For the most part, their new farm near Baxter, Iowa, had to be grubbed out before it could be cultivated, but after years of Industry, these hardy pioneers had Improved their farm until it was one of the best dairy farms in the country ( and was famous for its cheese fae-jto b tory which proved to be a leading Mar factor in bringing prosperity to the community. In 1896, when corn was selling for ten cents a bushel, they sold the old home and moved to the farm near Tiffin where they lived until failing health made it necessary to give up farming. Since then Mr. and Mrs. Allen lived at Tiffin and during the last two years with their children.Mr. Allen U eighty-two years old and is a veteran of. the Civil War. Mrs. Allen Is eighty years old.
