—Thirty-one yeare ago to-day will be iremembered by some of our older citi- ] zens as the day upon which a party of * Carroll county's young men left Ibr the ] then undeveloped golds fields of Call- j fornm. The party from Carroll county ; consisted of Curtis Hatfield, George Robertson, Atnasa Dodge, M. R. Graham, John'Manforti MUnde Jake*' Beck, John Duwese, Ellas Hewitt,James Thompson, Daniel Lamb, James Newton, David Martin, Robert Love, John Evans, Samuel Gordon, Isaac D. Griffith, IJr. E, W.H. Beck, J. D. Wil-son, Charles Gras, Christian Gras, John Patterson, George Sampson, Samuel I Milroy, Major B. F. Brough, Ham. Kennedy and James Newton. Of the I whole number about one-half aredead, the remainder, with three or four ex- I cepUons, still residing In the county, ! and are among our best and staunchest .citizens* I
