XD; FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 1889.GOLDEN WEDDING.Esq. Win. Randolph and Wife Celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of Their Marriage.A golden wedding is an experience vouchsafed to but few people, and there is an especial charm in the anniversary of a couple who have traveled the journey of life for half a century in the bands of matrimony. Pleasant indeed was the gathering of friends yesterday evening at the residence of Capt. Jacob Wintrode and wife in honor of the fiftieth' anniversary of the marriage of Mrs. Wintrode’s parents, William and Amelia Randolph. The gathering was not large, most of the assembly being relatives and personal friends of this city. Among them were Mrs. J. R. Coffroth, son Will and daughter Bessie, of Lafayette. Regrets and congratulations were received from a large number of absent friends, among them Judge Coffroth, Will and Wirt Randolph and their families, Alf. Wintrode, of Port Townsend, Mrs. Mitchell, of Cincinnati, Mrs. Heronimous, of Clarksville, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Langworthy, of Dubuque, Iowa. Mr. Wm. McGrew, of this city, enjoyed the distinction of greatest length of acquaintance, having known the couple prior to their marriage, in Ohio. Numerous presents appropriate to the occasion, and of great intrinsic value, were received from friends in Huntington and elsewhere. The hospitable home of the host and hostess was tastefully decorated with flowers and rendered very attractive. Cut flowers and house plants were in profusion, and a fairy grotto, covered with moss and studded with burning tapers, was a handsome sight and a beautiful piece of handiwork The bride and groom and host and hostess received the guests, and hearty congratulations were spoken in the sincerest language of friendship. At 10 o’clock a fine collation was served to which all did ample justice, and an hour later the guests reluctantly took their departure.Mr. and Mrs. Randolph were married in Shelby county, Ohio, Feb. 21, 1839. They lived in Ohio until 1852, when they came to Huntington county, first locating for a short time at Lancaster, Thence they removed to Antioch (now Andrews), being among the first settlers there. In 1872 they removed to this city, where they have resided ever since. Five children have been born to them, one of whom died during tne cholera epidemic of 1854 Four live to fill honorable positions and bring honor to the family. One son, William, is in business in California; another son, Wirt, has a responsible position with the Pacific Express Co., in Chicago; Mrs. Myra Wintrode, wife of Capt. Wintrode, is a well known and highly respected lady of our city; Mrs. Susan Coffroth is the wife of Judge Coffroth, a leading citizen of the State and one of foremost lawyers of Indiana. The couple are hale and hearty, and many anniversaries are in all probability yet in store for them. Mrs. Randolph, now sixty-eight years of age, still attends to her household duties and reads without spectacles, while the ’Squire himself is an active, energetic man, although he has turned his seventy-first year. The well rounded lives of Mr. and Mrs. Randolph are pleasant with beautiful memories. Hand in hand they have fought the battle of life with unbounded faith and loving loyalty to each other. In a new country, they met and overcome the difficulties of pioneer life, and accomplished their full share in making it a goodly heritage for those who follow in their foot-steps. Hospitable and generous, beloved and respected by all classes of citizens, true to themselves and to each other, the declining years of their lives are full of happiness and honor, and a large acquaintance will cordially unite with the Herald in the wish that many succeeding anniversaries of their wedding day, equally enjoyable to all, may follow.I(IBX]0|Huevlt;ofthtnaiChtri:talprlt;thlt;thlt;fivm«asthlt;Mlt;tio
