He retired from his work, at the close pf;the-work day. Friday.; :At the end of the regular 'work shift, friends ' and co-workers gathered• to offer Bert;.'as' he is better known, their best;- wishes. ..■ ■At the.Decker plant he;had been employed ah blacksmith,' and had done general forge ivork, He also was - experienced m tempering steel to make knives. ;• ..Prior to his-employment at the Decker plant, he. had been employed as a-blacksmith at the Lehigh Portland Cement Plant 22years.HE FIRST came to Mason City in 1907. For the first two and a half years he worked for Neal Casey in his blacksmith shop on what is now First N.E., midway in the block between the First Congregational arid St. John’s Episcopal Churches.His retirement completes 50 years of work in Mason City as ablacksmith. In all this time he has never had a lost time injury.Bror Lindstrom was born and reared In Ahus, Sweden. His ancestors had been blacksmiths inthis same town for six generations. • «He had six brothers apd four sisters.. THE BOYS served their apprenticeship in the blacksmith shop owned and operated by: theirfather. Three of the brothers came to the United States, Emil in 1904, Otto in 1905, and Bror in1907.11rkitHis father gaye-Bror 500 Kroner ($125) to start him out. His expense to Tracy, Mirip., was $58.75. He came to Mason5City soon after and • began;:workihg for Casey. Lindstroin can rembriiber buying his first car in April 1919, a Ford 2 door sedan, for which he paid $1,185. There were few selfstarters at that, time arid he,/can remember the times he had getting it started.HE WAS MARRIED to Ruby Belle Carle Sept. 2, 1925. She was a native of Cedar Rapids. They have been members of the Methodist Church in Mason City since 1925. Lindstrom is a member of the Masonic Benevolence Lodge 145 A;P. and A;M., the Eastern Star arid White Shrine.The Lindstrdms. will leave July f pn a trip to the West Coast, visiting friends arid relatives in Montana, Washington arid California.They expect to be gone about twomonths.Upon their return, Lindstrom expects to spend most of his: time taking care’ df his /home at '.1310 Adams N.W. 'He also has to catch up on some reading. He has been a /subscriber to the National Geographic Magazine, since 1925 arid has every issue.
