Col. Briggs look part in the celebrations in Washington. D. C.t New York City, West Point and Kansas City, Kan. lie was joined in Kansas City by Mrs. Briggs, and the two returned here following that observance.Col. Briggs is a native of North Carolina. He attended school at Belmont Abbey, N. C., and volunteered for service in the air corps in 19-10. He received his flight training at Hicks Field, Fort Worth, and at Randolph and Kel* ly Fields. Assigned to the 102nd Observation Squadron after receiving his pilot's wings and commission, Briggs served -with that unit in Alabama and California.j He went overseas in May, 1943,Y as a member of the 381st Bomb • Group, assigned to the 8th Airforce in England. During his dutyoverseas, Briggs served as squadron commander of I he JHSlh Bomb Group and later as group operations officer ami group commander. The veteran IM7 pimtreturned to the States in August, 1011, on a 30-day leave for rest and relaxation.To report to Miami, FJa., for ; reassignment to special duty at j the end nf his leave, Col. Briggs wears the Distinguished Flying Cross with three clusters, the Air Medal with three clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the European Theater ribbon with four major battle stars.His parents, Mr. and Mrs. A, F, ! Briggs Sr., reside in Bessmer City, j N\ C. One brother, Warrant Of- j ficer Tj, R. Briggs, is serving with the quarter master corps in New York City. ,Mrs. Briggs and their son have been making their home at 902 W. Agarjta Ave.
