Three MinutesA DayMULE STARTS INFERNOA mule being used in turpentinework in a Folkston, Georgia, swamp switched its tail into a bucket of burning coals and bolted; through the underbrush braying with pain.As the animal raced through the Okefenokee swamp it set the underbrush afire and in a matter ofseconds the atrea was a roaring inferno. Fire fighting units were called from as far away as Macon. ,The fire raced across 6,000 acres of the giant swamp and swept into the Charlton County pine forest. Here it seared an area 18 miles long and three miles wide.Ten days later, the last flames were extinguished with the help of heavy rains. But not before they had destroyed 20,000 acres of valuable pine trees.Forestry officials said it was one of the worst fires in South GeorgiaIn many year*.This is an unfortunate example of the widespread results of a sin-j gle act. The Christopher motto, “Better to light one candle than to curse the darkness,” makes this same Doint in urging each and every individual to do his or her part to bring God’s truths into every corner of everyday living. Individual effort for good multiplied over and over again is the only sure way of achieving the greatest good of the greatest number.Amen I say to you, this poor widow hath cast in more than all they do who have cast into the treasury. For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want . . (Mark 12:43-44)Help me, O Lord, never to underestimate my power for good.«
