Foreign flags decorate OsseoOSSEO — Melvin Krienke last year found himself often looking out the window at the Gambles Store he partially owns.By Jim Daly were from out-of-state. His gaze often went to the popular Norske Nook restaurant across Seventh Street from his store.He noticed by the license plates on the cars that many customers“Wouldn’t it be neat to have flags from the different states out here to welcome all the people who come off the highway?” he said to his wife, Dona, who also has an Osseo business, Dona’s Fabrics and Interiors.Krienke brought the idea up to the Osseo Commercial Club, of which his is chairman. The club agreed that it was a good idea, Dona said.Krienke sent letters to the governors of all 50 states. Two states — Illinoisand Texas — actually donated flags. The other governors sent notices how where the club could buy their respectiveflags.The club did so, and also procurred foreign flags from theold countries” of some Osseo residents.On Memorial Day, the flags debuted in the parade.Thev now are attached in buddies of three to lampposts on Seventh Street and Highway 53.
