Roman R. Atkielski, auxiliary bishop of Milwaukee, presiding. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. in the parish hall immediately afterward.mThe Rev. Joseph J. Lay teachers staffed the school until 1872, when the Sisters of Notre Dame arrived. Then in 1883 a $12,000 Gothic church building was erected, and the old church was used asa concert hall.Stations of the cross installed in the 1890’s were saved from a fire in 1907 and still are used today. To replace the buildingdestroyed in that fire, a building costing nearly $17,000 was built. Materials for the new structure were hauled by parishioners with horse and wagons. A school building completed in 1917 serves the school today.St. Alphonsus was affected by wartime shortages in 1918, when for three weeks in February it closed for lack of fuel.
