Martin V. Sinmicnmiii.Martin V. Simmerman. son of Frederick and Catherine Simmerman, was born December 2.'}. 18-10, and departed this life June 13, 1907, aged 60 yearn, 5 months and 20 days. He was married on March (*, 1870, to Laura Myers, who preceded him three years ago. To this union were born eight children, six of whom survive, two dying in infancy. Those who survive are: Bertha Horn, Lottie Lucas, Ethel Hill, Kate, Kosa aud Fred Simmerman.He was a man of groat courage and wheu war was declared between the North aud South he enlisted in Corn pauy C, 86th Indiana Regiment, in August, 1862, and served until June 13, 1865, during which time he endured great hardships, being on board of the ill-fated steamer Sultana when it blew up, aud from which he narrowly escaped death.Mr. Simmerman was sick only a short time and was a great sufferer during his last few hours, but bore it with great patience. His children were very attentive at his bedside, giving all the comfort for his relief that was in their power. He was a man loved by all his neighbors aud always had a cheerful countenance and enjoyed life aud made his home pleasant for his family. Such a sudden removal of euch a life from among us leaves a vacancy and a shadow that will be deeply realized by the family, friends aud community. The home is broken wheu a father and a mother are taken, but they had by their loving hands carefully fitted their children for their future destiny.He is survived by his six children, three brothers, Joseph, Stephen and Jackson, and four sisters, Mrs. Laura Trickey, Mrs. Nancy Story, Mrs. Jane Brier and Mrs. Maggie Ruark.The funeral services were held at his late home at 10 a. m. Sunday, June 16, being conducted by Rev. J. T. Orton, of the Presbyterian church of Williamsport, and were attended by . J a large concourse of neighbors and friends. The music was furnished by the Rainsville choir.
