65 Years Ago Herald, June 16We have this to say to themembers of the town board: it would meet with the approval of every enterprising citizen if Jasper was given day electric power. In fact, many requests have been made for it already...If the day current would be installed it would be a great benefit to the business houses which have lights in their basements. There are many other uses for which it could be utilized, for instance, to run small machinery where gasoline engines are now used. The Knights of St.John of Louisville, accompanied by about 300 excursionists, came to Jasper last Sunday to spend the day at Calumet Lake. Our citizens were shocked Sunday morning when they learned of the unexpected death of that kind and lovable old man, Rev. J. H. “Grandpa” Lukemeyer...He was born in Schledehausen, Germany, 89 years ago and came to America at the age of 21. — Huntingburg item.
